Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development Dr Franko Rodie

THE Permanent Secretary of Education and Human Resource Development says modern technology is changing the culture of learning and that the country needs to adapt to it.

Dr Franko Rodie said modern technology has changed the culture of student learning process and that it will soon revolutionise the classroom especially the way in which students will be taught.

He adds that the transformation of learning culture will slowly invade students’ interests in schools with more preference for modern learning technique as it is more efficient and easier.

Dr Franko said the digital culture will reshape ways of learning impacting the construction and distribution of knowledge and power around the world.

He said it is time for Solomon Islands to start looking at introducing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the education system.

Dr Franko explained that ICT is the least approach the country can undertake in order to live up to the modern learning culture.

“I understand that there are numbers of schools and institution who have already applied ICT in their learning process through funding from donor partners, which is a positive move for our country.

“I encourage more schools and other training institutions to introduce such learning process,” he said.

Dr Franko stressed that ICT is an important education tool that widely promoted to have contributed well in student learning and better teaching methods.

“In many countries, digital literacy is being built through the incorporation of information and communication technology (ICT) into schools.

“Teachers are developed in specific professional opportunities in order to increase their ability to use ICT for formative learning assessments, individualized instruction, accessing online resources, and for fostering student interaction and collaboration.

“Solomon Islands can also apply the same approach,” he said.

Dr Franko stressed that it is important to develop such learning method to assist the present generation of students in their preparation towards future learning methods.
