Varese school in danger of being shut down
VARESE Community High School (CHS) is without a single staff house.
The school is in South East Vella La Vella Island, Western Province
This is blamed on the fact that five tribes of Varese and Malosova villages have failed to contribute to five new staff houses as part of community contribution to the school.
A concerned parents expressed his disappointment yesterday, saying that this could affect the school in huge ways.
He said the double-storey class room building was funded by the Solomon Islands Government through the Western Provincial government with funds reaching $10 million.
Adding that here was, and still is no support from the community.
“We are all concern over our class 6 students, who make their way to attended Varese CHS this year, but then still community support is very poor and no staff houses were built yet.
“We are all concern, therefore we urge members of the Western Province Education authorities in Gizo to quickly observe this situation currently affecting Varese CHS.
“We want the responsible authorities to quickly settle this issue together with community members or close this school because of no proper community support.”
Meanwhile, Western Province Education in Gizo have called on the five tribal groups of Varese and Malosova community to quickly build five staff houses for teaches before the school shuts down.
If the community does not responds favourably then the authority will close down the school, which will be the second time the school has been forcibly shut.
