SINU Gov’t sponsored students’ fees ready

PAYMENT for tuition fees of government sponsored students at the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) is ready to be made.

This is for the second semester of last year, 2016, which has not yet been paid.

Minister of Finance and Treasury, Snyder Rini announced this on the floor of parliament yesterday.

Mr Rini said the problem with SINU is similar with the University of the Solomon Pacific (USP).

“We have to do verification of students, because we have found out that a lot of students that are included in SINU’s payment have already graduated,” he said.

Mr Rini said this is the problem that delays the payment, and they have to find out rightful students.

“The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance have undergone verification and according to information, they have completed the verification and payment is now ready to be made.”

Mr Rini was responding to a supplementary question by Member of Parliament (MP) for Maringe/Kokota and ProChancellor and Chair to SINU Council Dr Culwick Togamana.

Mr Togamana raised a question on government compliance in regards to SINU fees for second semester last year which have not been paid by the government.

Recurrent and budget for first quarter for this year is yet to be paid

“What compliance issue has to meet so that these payments have to be done since you mentioned the government’s finance is intact.”
