SIG sponsored student allowances

DEAR EDITOR, it has been a continuing claim from students and parents regarding SIG sponsored student living allowances delay or not sufficient.

I believe as parents, we should appreciate the opportunity our children have for being offered scholarship awards from SIG.

Therefore, we should be responsible and oblige to some extent to support our children in some way to relief our government budget.

Why do we continue to rely on the government for every single penny at this time when our government is facing very difficult financial situation?

Why do we (parents) expect others to take care of our children?

It is our time to show our parenting responsibilities.

Student living allowances should be the obligation of both the sponsor plus parents.

We (parents) should always prepare to stand in and support our children with living allowance when our SIG is facing such financial constraint.

At the end of the day, we will benefit from the education of our children therefore we have to sacrifice for the education costs and future of our children.

The only main concern for our children is to ensure our government has paid up the appropriate tuition fees so that our children are able to continue their studies well.
