EXPERIENCED central defender Nelson Sale will join OFC Champions League bound Western United FC camp.

The club confirmed the 30 year old Sale will arrive this weekend from Port Villa Vanuatu to join the men in orange for the champion’s league.

“Solomon Islands National defender, Nelson Sale will arrive this weekend from Port Vila to join the men in orange for the 2017 group C of the Oceania Champions League in Auckland,” the statement said.

“Sale with his wealth of defending experience in O’league is currently playing in Vanuatu for Amicale FC. United is in contact with Amicale’s management for his release and hope to have it sorted before the week ends.

Sale previously played for Koloale FC during 2004-2006 before moving to join Young Heart Manawatu of New Zealand from 2006-2007.

He played for Richmond Athletic in 2007 before returning to join local side Makuru FC the same year until 2008.

He then joined Auckland City FC in 2008 and then rejoined Young Heart Manawatu FC in 2009 and then Amicale FC from 2010-2014.

He returned home in 2015 to play for Western United FC and then rejoined Amicale FC of 2015-2016 campaign.

Meanwhile the club said Head Coach Commins Menapi and fitness Coach Faamoana said they will be strict with guidelines in selecting players for the champion’s league.

“Coach Commins Menapi and Fitness Coach Faamoana said they will be strict with guidelines in selecting players for the O league.

“Menapi said, though he has a team in place, the players have to prove to him beyond reasonable doubt that they are capable to compete in the Oceania Champions League. Not every player who played in the S League for Western United will be selected.

“A fitness test will be conducted next week to see the level of fitness of the player’s. After this test, the coaches will tell where the team is at the moment. Senior players in the squad will not tolerated for their attitude in missing trainings,” the statement adds.

Western United FC are pooled in Group C alongside, Auckland City FC (NZ), Western United FC (SOL), Erakor Golden Star FC (VAN), Lae City Dwellers FC (PNG)
