Safe-boat operation continues
POLICE Commissioner Frank Prendergast says that operation safe-boat will continue to monitor ships and outboard motor engines.
He said this time of the year people are coming back after the Christmas and New Year holidays and Police with Maritime officers are concerned about people’s safety.
He said in the past weeks police and maritime officers were monitoring vessels travelling to the provinces, and the operation continues vice versa.
Mr Prendergast called on ship and boat owners to exercise precaution while travelling; listen out for weather forecast, take extra fuel and other basic necessities for travelling, and ships should carry passenger to its limit and not overloaded.
The safe-boat operation is jointly conducted with Police and Maritime officers to ensure travelling vessels are not overloaded while travelling.
The safe-boat operation started December 1 last year and will continue till end of January.
