ROC Taiwan and SINU strengthen relationship

REPUBLIC of China (Taiwan) and Solomon Islands National University (SINU) continue to strengthen their relationship.

This was following the visit by the recently appointed Ambassador of ROC Taiwan and his delegation to the National University yesterday.

In his welcome address, Acting Vice Chancellor of SINU Professor Basil Marasinghe said fruitful discussions have been made between SINU and Ambassador Roger Luo.

He said Taiwan has continued to assist SINU providing postgraduate education to Lecturers in School of Nursing.

Mr Marasinghe adds that Taiwan has also supported SINU’s academic programmes such as Bachelor of Nursing and Mandarin Language Programme.

“We also discussed the opportunity of cooperation with SINU and Republic of China in the above areas and also discussed the possibility of SINU having Department of Dentistry in the future,” he said.

Mr Marasinghe acknowledged the Taiwanese Government and at the same time looking forward to work with Taiwan Embassy here in Honiara in the future.

In his remarks, Ambassador Luo stressed that Taiwanese Government is ready to help SINU in areas of Agriculture, Forestry and Information and Communication Technology.

“There are many other areas that ROC may be able to help SINU, among them are Agriculture, Forestry and ICT,” he said.

Ambassador Luo also mentioned that Taiwan will be funding of a Stadia for Soccer and Football for the 2023 Pacific Games.
