DELAYED series of payments for overseas tertiary students has been clarified by the Minister of Finance and Treasury.

Hon Snyder Rini yesterday disclosed on the floor of Parliament that the main reasons behind such delays is because the Ministry has to verify the payments given by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development (MEHRD).

Rini told Parliament that there is a big expectation from the Ministry of Finance and Treasury but when it comes to delayed payments for educational purposes, it is because the listing provided by the MEHRD is not updated.

He added that whilst his ministry works on verifying the lists, they found out that some have either left university or have already completed their courses, hence the delay and inconsistencies.

The Minister of Finance and Treasury then disclosed that his ministry has been in close and consistent consultation with the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development to address the issue, to resolve the misinformation provided, hence the three weeks hold up many have been complaining about.

He added that a proper list has been given to his ministry and payments have already been made.
