PM and Manaoba Airport

DEAR EDITOR, the Prime Minister’s flimsy rhetorical revelation pertaining to delay in the full operation of Manaoba Airport made in his speech during the launching of Fakaloloma Sanitation Project must not be left unchallenged.

It saddens me to note that since the PM took office, he is well aware of the legal discrepancies resulting in the delay as he alluded to in his speech.

However, the PM has done nothing at all in his capacity to ensure this national project gets off the ground and even to probe the $62m that was alleged to have been spent on the airport to date.

“Ten million blo Health yia small nomoa, $62m blo Manaoba nao big. Investigatim mekem oketa wea stealim go fo duim degree blo oketa lo Rove”

Meetings have been called to look into how best to address these legal hiccups but as always, the PM usually had his excuses.

Instead of attending, a low level delegation is his way of so called addressing the issue.

It makes me wonder if these delegations are genuine because none of the resolutions agreed on during these meetings have come to fruition.

It is hypocritical to note that the PM often has time to meet with oversea singers touring the country and yes even has time to meet with beauty pageant contestants whose contributions were mere feast for eyes.

I am of the opinion that a PM, who professes devotion to rural development, should be driven with impartiality and not preferentiality.

Furthermore, the PM should act with due diligence and not to compromise and belittling his integrity by boasting about development failures under his watch.

After all, Manaoba Airport landowners have offered their land willingly for development and the government is dragging its feet citing legal complications known only to the PM and his cohorts.

If the PM is serious about development, he should be fair in his approach and prepare to address whatever comes his way.

The Manaoba Airport issue has been there for well over six years now and the PM only finds it fitting to provide a lip-service solution than a concrete concerted effort to get this national project off the ground.
