A first ever national youth dialogue bringing together inputs from representatives of all nine provinces has been dubbed a start of strongly driven youth development agendas.

This was highly commended by relevant stakeholders present during the dialogue yesterday.

The national dialogue with women and provincial youth leaders to seek inputs on the new National Youth Policy (NYP), Strategic Framework for Youth Development in Solomon Islands (SFYDSI) and the proposed National Youth Employment Strategy (NYES) commenced yesterday.

The national dialogue that officially commenced yesterday offers opportunity for the Women Development Division (WDD) of the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs (MWYCFA) to present and seek feedback on key priorities and initiatives the WDD will focus on this year including programs it aims to implement in the provinces.

The purpose of the national dialogue is for young women and provincial and HCC youth leaders to discuss and contribute to the development of a new 3-tier policy framework for youth development in Solomon Islands to succeed the 2010 – 2015 National Youth Policy.

The 3-tier policy framework comprises of a new National Youth Policy (NYP), a new Strategic Framework for Youth Development in Solomon Islands (SFYDSI) and a new National Youth Employment Strategy (NYES) in Solomon Islands.

The initiative to develop the 3-tier policy framework for youth development in Solomon Islands is in line with the DCC Government’s policy priorities for youth economic empowerment.

The MWYCFA’s pursuit of a new 3-tier policy framework for youth development in Solomon Islands exemplifies the government’s commitment to transform the country’s youths and adolescents into a positive force for nation building that ensures every young person in Solomon Islands is given the opportunity to contribute to the social, cultural, economic and political development of the country.

It is Ensuring effective mechanisms to support youth employment is one of the key strategies in the new 3-tier policy framework and the Solomon Islands Government is committed to pursue appropriate measures to address youth unemployment throughout the country.

It is anticipated that the drafts of the National Youth Policy and the Strategic Framework for Youth Development in Solomon Islands would be at an advanced stage and the main components would be presented for discussion and feedback by the national dialogue.

The dialogue will continue today at the Heritage Park Hotel and ends tomorrow.
