National statistics reports to be launched today

THE Solomon Islands National Statistics Office will launch the National Statistics Development Strategy 2015-16 to 2035 (NSDS) and the 2015 Demographic and Health Survey (DHS) final reports today.

The two reports will be of great use as they’ll provide important information recently conducted on population, resources, health and other aspects of the country.

According to NSO, under the NSDS, it aims to enhance quality statistics in Solomon Islands by improving access to data, statistical capability, use of resources, coordination and leadership of the national statistical system.

Likewise, the 2015 DHS Final Report provides information and data on key demographic and health indicators such as fertility and family planning behaviour, infant and child mortality.

The report continues to look on adult and maternal mortality, women and children’s nutritional status, use of maternal and child healthcare services, knowledge of HIV and AIDS, and other health-related issues.

These reports will inform policy and decision-making including individual choices on population and health, also policy and decision-making on economic development.

The NSDS will play a significant role in strengthening collaboration with the development partners on key economic and development issues and achieving sustainable economic development for the people.

The 2015 DHS findings are timely in the face of ever-increasing demand for comprehensive, accurate, reliable, and timely statistics.

The NSDS and the DHS projects show that collaboration among data producers and users is more critical now than ever before.

The NSDS brings together all key stakeholders in the production, dissemination and use of statistics to achieve this.
