Motel pursues $188k bill from Malaita province gov’t
THE FE Travellers Motel in Auki is asking the Malaita provincial government for its outstanding bill of $188,000.
The outstanding bill is said to have been incurred during the period of electing a premier for Malaita province.
Speaking to Island Sun, the motel’s management said that members of Premier Ramohia’s executive had rented rooms while the premier-seeking process was on.
Further information says that after Premier Ramohia’s successful election, members of his executive continued to stay on for an unspecified period of time.
Some members checked out without informing motel management, it is reported.
“Some members left the rooms unexpectedly without consulting us and foremost, payments were not made to us which shows a bad practice displayed as a leader.”
The motel’s management has decided to ‘go media’ with its claim, seeing it as the only way to catch the attention of the Malaita provincial government.
“The management calls on the Malaita provincial government to repay our bills immediately for the running of our business especially.”
Meanwhile, it is understood that the province’s service grant has already been injected into the province’s coffers.
FE Travellers Motel management says that despite receiving funds, the Malaita provincial government has not raised a cheque towards their outstanding bill with the motel.
“That service grant has been poured out in our treasury last week but still no cheques have been raised to us.
“It takes almost three years now and the malaita provincial government should do something about it especially in paying up our bills.”
Members of the Malaita provincial government could not be contacted for comments yesterday.
