Ministry establishes new concept for tourism development

THE Ministry of Culture and Tourism is establishing new concepts in effort to make sure tourism projects funded by the government are successful.

The new approach is aimed at assisting operators to identify suitable and marketable sites for tourism development.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Mr Andrew Nihopara said the ministry has come up with Potential Profiling and Surveys concept to mitigate tourism development and market demand.

He explained that profiling will help the Ministry and Tourism Operators to understand and determine practical viability of project sites and project concepts.

Mr Nihopara said the idea behind the new establishment to ensure tourism developments are aligned to factors for success.

He adds that the approach will also determine decision of allocating funding for Tourism developments.

“The idea is that funding assistance will be directed at viably profiled and assessed tourism projects to avoid fail project or unmarketable tourist destination,” Mr Nihopara explained.

He continues to say that the Ministry is also developing a community-based tourism projects and pilot projects.

Mr Nihopara said the community-based tourism concept is a framework that the Ministry establish to encourage efficient packaging for visitors.

He said the Tourism Division have been tasked to implement the new programme.
