MID acknowledges West Honiara Constituency initiative

THE Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) has applauded West Honiara Constituency for taking the responsibility to improve road access in the outskirts of West Honiara.

Speaking to the media, Procurement Officer of MID, Ms Dalcy Ausuta said the initiative is welcoming and MID will give its support towards the implementation of the projects.

She said such initiative is very important as it will encourage community participation in road development.

Ms Ausuta adds that such initiative will inspire communities to take ownership of roads and services provided.

She said MID will be liaising with West Honiara Constituency to provide training for community members in effort to give community members a fair idea on required knowledge and skills qualified for the projects.

“I think this is the first in history that constituency leads such development, it is very welcoming and we will assist the communities in terms of training,” Ms Ausuta said.

She said proper training is the way forward for such development as it includes technical skills to implement.

Meanwhile, Ms Ausuta said MID is currently offering labour based programmes engaging communities residing close to feeder roads.

Yesterday, West Honiara Constituency dished out $500,000 to five communities as part of the constituency’s Feeder Road Development.
