Manele supports need for anti-doping bill
PARLIAMENTARY Opposition Leader Jeremiah Manele has welcomed recommendations by the Bills and Legislations Committee to bring an Anti-Doping Bill to Parliament soon.
Whilst welcoming the recommendations, Mr Manele also urged the Government to bring the bill to Parliament as soon as possible.
He said this is to supplement the Pacific Games 2023 Bill 2016 so that it enables necessary technical requirements for the Games.
“It is important that we keep up to the standards and requirements of the World Anti-Doping Code (Code) as the core document that harmonizes anti-doping policies, rules and regulations within sport organisations and among public authorities around the world,” the Opposition Leader told Parliament.
Mr Manele highlighted this when he spoke in Parliament yesterday on the Pacific Games 2023 Bill 2016.
“In that sense, we also express our seriousness in encouraging free doping in the 2023 Games,” he said.
The Opposition Leader also acknowledged the Government’s assurance that a separate Bill on anti-doping will be brought to Parliament this year.
