Man guilty for assaulting wife
A man has pleaded guilty in the Honiara Magistrate Court yesterday for assaulting his wife on two occasions last year.
Alex Maebiru was charged by police with two counts of common assault in relation to incidents which occurred in October and December of 2016.
When the court arraigned him of the charges he pleaded guilty but disagreed on some of the prosecution’s facts on how the assault was done.
Defence Lawyer Lazarus Waroka told the court that his client did not agree with the police when they said that the accused used his closed fist to punch the victim.
Mr Waroka said from instruction from his client he only slapped the victim’s upper left hand and not punching using closed fists as alleged.
Principal Magistrate Ricky Iomea then ordered the Prosecution to sort out the facts before sentencing could be made.
Therefore the case is adjourned to Wednesday this week for mention and sentencing of the accused.
Police Prosecute Iete Tebakota appears for the Prosecution.
