Late allowances, not a good practice
A concerned parent expressed unhappiness on the matter that students in Fiji are not receiving their allowances on time.
He said his daughter, who is currently doing her studies at Laucala Campus, said that they are yet to receive this month’s allowance.
The parent mentioned how he had been supporting his daughter for the last three years because of this problem.
He also added that this has been a problem for our students in Fiji and it is serious.
He adds if a student was facing that kind of problem in his or her country it would be better than experiencing that difficulty in a foreign country.
He spoke of a brief story which happened to our students studying at the campus in Fiji. He said there was a point in time when this same situation occurred and students didn’t eat for a week.
The concerned parent was not only concerned about his child, but obviously about the case of our students who, like his child, are going through the same challenge.
This particular parent also included a bit of advice for our students over there.
He said that students should be mindful with how they spend their allowance and refrain from unnecessary expenses on habits like smoking, drinking and going to nightclubs.
“They have to abstain from that,” he said.
He added that these are the things which attract students to spend in an unwise manner.
His question for the government is “When will the allowance be given?”
A suggestion he had in mind was the possibility of whether our government would be able to can make some form of arrangements with Fiji.
In regards to that, he said the arrangement would be that the responsible authorities in Fiji assist our students financially at times when the date of receiving their allowances are far overdue and in turn our government repay them later.
