Independent group questions Rini over appointment of SIWA board
THE Parliamentary Independent Group has asked the Minister of Finance and Treasury, Hon Snider Rini to clarify the issues surrounding the appointment of the new members of the Solomon Islands Water Authority (SIWA) Board, which has been overdue since the expiration of the previous board.
The delay is somewhat an impediment to the progress of SIWA development programmes that should have been forthcoming, however for unknown reasons, the appointments are still on hold.
Given that, the Minister has to clearly outline the difficulties pertaining to the appointment of the SIWA board. It is expected that a swift decision with proactive action has to be taken.
It was echoed in the parliament by the Minister of Mines, Energy and Electrification that a board should be installed sooner however the crux of the matter is that Minister Rini has been delaying the process for a year now.
It is understood that there are petty reasons as to why this is so, and as such, the independent group calls on Minister Rini to quickly activate the process to ease up any inconvenience on the part of the government statutory body.
In that, we wish to call on the good common sense of Minister Rini to consider national interest at the forefront, rather than personal, as it is for the good of the organisation and the people as a whole.
