Hon Wale calls for audit of Airspace revenue collection

Hon. Mathew Wale

MEMBER of Parliament for Aoke/Langalanga Hon Matthew Wale has called on the Minister of Aviation and Communication to carry an audit on the country’s airspace revenue collection.

Hon Wale made the request during the Tenth Parliament-Fifth Session – Fifth meeting yesterday.

He stressed that there is a need to audit the airspace revenue as the collections were made by different organisations.

“It is important to know the factual revenue collected from our upper airspace and with this question I suggests audit must be made to this account,” Hon Wale said.

He also calls on the Minister of Aviation and Communication to explain the rate, charges and calculations given to aircrafts flying over our airspace.

Responding to the questions, Minister of Aviation and Communication Hon Peter Shanel said the rates and charges are calculated based on weight plus numbers of passengers plus number of flights.

He said revenue collected from our upper airspace comes from flight routines to and from Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

Hon Shanel said auditing the country’s Airspace revenue is very important and that his Ministry will request the documents from Australia Air Space for the auditing purpose.
