HCC clamps down on Business licences

Deputy Mayor and Chairman for Finance Division Cr. Charles Aiwosuga
HONIARA City’s Deputy Mayor and Chairman for Finance Division Charles Aiwosuga has made a stern statement for business houses and public transport owners.
It is a reminder for those who are yet to pay their business licences – it is a breach of the Council’s ordinance if licences are not payed.
“I would like to remind the general public, especially business and public transport owners that operating a business without an approved business license from the council is illegal.
“It has come to our attention that some business owners have avoid paying up their licenses, and this practice must be stopped. I urge everyone to be honest with their operations and to have a valid business license,” Aiwosuga said.
The chairman said those businesses engaged in illegal activities will have serious consequences with legal action taken against them.
“I must make it clear that our legal office will deal with those who do not comply with the Council’s business license ordinance, so I urge everyone to comply to avoid such actions,” he added.
For public transport owners, Aiwosuga said that there will be a major vehicle business licence check next week.
“Another reminder to public transport owners, we will be conducting a major licence check with the assistance of the RSIPF.
“For busses and taxi owners who are yet to pay their business licence must do so to avoid any actions against them,” he added.
Aiwosuga said as the Chairman responsible for the Finance Division of HCC, tougher measures will be taken and those found operating illegally will be prosecuted.
He further appealed to the public to come forward and report any illegal business operating without a licence within the City.
Revenues collected from business licences are used for the service delivery in the City.
