Gizo crime rate is stable
CRIME rate in Gizo Town is stable.
According to Gizo Acting Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Vincent Eria, this is because of the good active work carried out by the town police and support given by communities to assist them.
He said yesterday that there are continuous normal petty crimes such as disorderly from drunk related issues but because citizens of Gizo Town being very cooperative is what contributes to the stability of crime rate there.
“One small mistake from someone the public do not know and they report them straight to us,” said Acting PPC.
“If they recognise a person then they would advice them straight on the spot. If they advice them but they do not listen then they report them to us,” he said.
He said the police vehicles patrolling in Gizo travel around the town roads two to three times an hour which boosts the prevention of crimes from occurring as well.
“Once police patrolling comes across a crime situation then they arrest whoever involves without more ado.
“So we the police here in Gizo Town do not have many problems with its citizens. The ones we do have problems with are law breakers entering the provincial town from outside.
“This is because when they enter the provincial town they act as if there is no law here but once they get arrested, they would excuse by saying that they did not know there was such law.
“From such excuses always gives me the thought, “the law was passed in Honiara and it applies everywhere within this country.”
The PPC made this remark referring to the situation that many law breakers arrested in Gizo as well are from Honiara.
Acting PPC Vincent Eria is advising Gizo citizens to keep up with the good work in help assisting the police of the province to tackle crimes.
