Generous donations making a difference
DEAR EDITOR, last week the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock handed over farming tools and seeds to the National Disaster Management Office towards the recovery efforts following the Makira earthquake disaster.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, Jimi Saelea, handed over the tools to the Director of the NDMO, Loti Yates, and said providing agriculture tools to families who had been badly affected following the earthquake would enable them to produce their own food and help them gradually recover their lives to a degree of normalcy.
It is understood the tools cost $150,000 while the seeds cost around $14,000.
In another act of generosity, the Kava Bar in Munda made an initial donation of 20 new pillows to the Helena Goldie Hospital.
The owners of the Kava Bar, Milton Aqorau and Betty Brechtefeld-Aqorau, said they will continue to donate 20 pillows each month to the hospital for the next four months
The donation of pillows for patients at the Helena Goldie Hospital by the Kava Bar is a great gesture and I extend my personal appreciation to Mr and Mrs Aqorau for their kind consideration of the welfare of the hospital’s patients.
I also express my appreciation to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock for the practical aid rendered to the victims of the recent earthquake.
Yours sincerely
FRANK SHORT
