FIU hydro Project one of the national projects to be implemented on malaita province is awaiting a high court decision before any actual work can start after reaching this stalemate last year.

The project was halted due to some parties claiming to be real landowners bringing this matter to the high court towards the end of last year.

Informations obtained by this paper said the project has been halted for almost seven months without any decision being made from the high court as yet.

Some have questioned why the decision has taken time for it to be made known.

They said there are some people who have negative thoughts towards development on Malaita.

“We malaitans should work together to build our island with development and to create job opportunities for our people.

This paper understands that the hydro project was close to its implementation stage but the misunderstanding by some people have disrupted the project.

The survey work has been completed with the dam site already identified.

Information obtained by this paper also said that all eyes from both the Provincial and National governments, fiu hydro resource owners, the donor, the hydro dam designer and investor are focusing on the high court decision to be made soon for actual work to kick off.

This year was marked for the first work phase to be done on the Fiu mini hydro project.
