DBSI consultation reaches final phase in Isabel
THE Solomon Islands Government will be holding final consultations in Buala, Isabel Province regarding the revitalisation of the Development Bank of Solomon Islands (DBSI).
The consultations will be conducted by the Cabinet established Sub-Committee and will include Business houses and the Provincial Executive.
A Cabinet Sub Committee team will travel this Sunday to consult with the business sector and the Provincial Executive.
The Team will also include amongst other, Public Private Partnership (PPP) specialist Mr Peter Forau
Final Consultation on the programme is expected to kick off by Monday, January 23, 2017 and is expected to continue until January 27, 2017.
The Consultations will cover areas from the Hograno Hinterland, Bugotu and Buala regions who have already been engaged in small and medium enterprise, commercial agriculture and exports.
The areas targeted above have had previous dealings with established organisations which were designed to provide credit facilities or had engage in commercial activities.
Whilst some of these organisations have been dormant for some time, the collective experience of these targeted areas is crucial to the Government’s experience.
Commercial activities are also not new to these areas. Recently, Varivao holdings Company had embarked into exporting cassava, to add on to the lists of exports of coffee and kava.
A Public Private Partnership (PPP) approach will be discussed during the course of the consultation.
The Consultation will conclude on January 27, 2017.
A report will be presented to Cabinet by the Sub-Committee, and may seek appropriate instructions for necessary legislative changes if required.
Any legislative changes will be consulted to by the necessary departments of the government and is expected to be tabled in parliament later this year.
This will include any recapitalisation budget for the Development Bank.
