DBSI Cabinet sub-committee in Isabel for consultation

Cabinet Sub Committee and MP for Savo – Russell, Hon Dickson Mua

THE Development Bank of Solomon Islands (DBSI) Cabinet Sub-committee team is currently in Isabel Province for a weeklong consultation on the proposed reinvigoration of DBSI.

The team which consists of the Secretariat of the Cabinet Sub-Committee, Ministry of Finance and representative of Central Bank of Solomon Islands left Honiara yesterday morning by boat braving the bad weather.

Speaking upon their arrival at Luvalu village in Isabel, Director of Government Communication Mr George Herming said the weeklong consultation will kick off today morning at Kolobuti and later in the afternoon at Kolomola village in Hograno District.

He said the team will then meet with Vulavu community on Tuesday, Sigana community on Wednesday and Poro community on Thursday before concluding the consultation programme at Buala on Friday.

Mr Herming said the consultation is part of DCCG government intervention to seek people’s views on plans to reinvigorate Development Bank of Solomon Islands.

“This consultation is aimed to bring together important stakeholders in community level to come forward and discuss this important government policy.

“It will also be an opportunity to learn of the projections forward and the government is looking into setting up this financial institution,” he said.

Mr Herming explained that the plan to reinvigorate DBSI is part of the government’s plan to assist people with more effective financial resources.

He said the government’s plan to expand financial resources to rural communities so that farmers and fishermen can have access to financial resources to start their own business.

Mr Herming said the consultation process is on its final stage with numbers of consultation already carried out in Malaita and Western Province last year.

The Cabinet Sub-Committee looking into the Democratic Coalition for Change Government’s policy initiative to revive DBSI is headed by the MP for Savo- Russells, Hon Dickson Mua and consists of members from the Ministry of Finance and Treasury, Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Labour and Immigration, Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, CBSI (Central Bank of Solomon Islands) and the National Provident Fund.
