THOSE living around the Rove market area can now be able to keep their surroundings clean, thanks to the assistance from their Councillor.

The Councillor for Rove/Lengakiki Eddie Siapu, responded from a request from the community by assisting them with equipment.

“With the current bad weather patterns experienced throughout the country, it has brought along a lot of debris in our area,” Community leader Andrew Rehomora said.

“One of the main concerns was the blockage of the drain, which has caused the water to raise over the drains onto the main road, which is dangerous for vehicles and people on foot. Also along with it, there is a lot of rubbish floating around when it rains.

“And this has caused us to seek assistance from our Councillor to help us with equipments, to clear the drain blockage and the pile of rubbish.”

Rehomora thanked Cr Siapu for responding to their request and said the assistance will help the community in keeping their surroundings clean.

He added that this will also help engage the youths and women to participate in community development.

Meanwhile, Cr Siapu said he is happy to assist the group and said this is one way of giving back to the community.

“I’m happy to assist as this was for a worthwhile cause for the community in helping the City Council by keeping their surroundings clean.

“The equipment were paid from the ward grants, and I believe they will make good use of it for the purpose intended for. For those who have not received such assistance, I ask them to be patient as there will be another ward grant allocation for the 2nd quarter,” Siapu said.

He further applauds the Member for West Honiara Hon Namson Tran and the Deputy Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga, who have both been supportive in providing assistance last year.

He said he is looking forward in working closely with the two National Members this year, for the betterment of the communities and the country as a whole.
