Borderline chief commends police response team

THE Police response team have received commendation for a swift response and arrest made on Friday at Mamulele in the crime-infested Borderline area in east Honiara.

Borderline outspoken Chief Stephen Firibae applauds the police and thanks them for the job well done.

“This weekend is very peaceful as far as the community is concerned. There was no noisy, no kwaso drinkers, no swearing, no shouting and no heavy music,” he told Island Sun yesterday.

He said this is what the community looks forward to.

“We want to see the work of police reach us, we as chiefs risk our lives every day because when we try to solve problems or make awareness these youths want to kill us.

“No matter how best we tried, our lives is at risk and we became powerless,” Chief Firibae stressed.

He said in nowadays mentality of youths started to go out of hand.

“It is totally different, we can’t change their mentality unless we do something that satisfies them. Another thing is that there is no respect for older people.

“All these affects other families in the community,” Chief Firibae adds.

He said if the police continuous to work together with the community will maintain peace.

“The police must respond when we call, they must not wait. As chief once again I want to thank the police for arrest they made at Borderline on Friday.”

Chief Firibae said a good number of youths were arrested at the time for public nuisance and alcohol related crime.
