Auki market needs more infrastructure improvement

THE Auki main market needs more improvements on its infrastructure, market manager Ms Betty Kwanairara told this paper yesterday.

She said the market needs proper fencing especially for security purposes of the market facilities.

“We need proper dumping site to throw our rubbish rather that keeping them in the market compound for couple of weeks before removing.”

It is understood that one of the priorities is the water pump problem and the water storage tank for venders to use.

She added it really affects lots of vendors who want to come to do their marketing and cleaning up their products.

“Water is the main thing we really want because we need to wash the whole market after every marketing each day.”

Meanwhile, the market management continues to work with the Asian Pacific sustainable development (APSD) at Fiu to collect green wastes from the market garbage composting at APSD training centre.

“At the moment we do not have any outstanding areas with Solomon waters but we have water pump problem and our water storage tank needs repair and it is too small to provide water for the whole market including the toilets.

“Currently we only provide water only for the toilets in the market,” Ms Kwanairara said.

“The market management calls on the Malaita provincial government (MPG) to consider this issue as we are looking forward to its improvements.”

The Malaita provincial government is currently the financial controller of the Auki main market.
