Appreciation of Solomon Islands Peace Building efforts at the UN

Dear Editor

ACCORDING to a media release from the Press Secretary of the Prime Minister today, Sunday, 11 June 2017, the PM has described his trip to New York, United States of America for the special session convened by the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission for him to present Solomon Islands case as a post-conflict country and the challenges facing its peace-building efforts as successful.

Prime Minister Sogavare  has said the responses to his presentation by the Members of the UN Peacebuilding  Commission  (PBC)  and  the  leaders  of  the  Pacific Islands  Forum  Member  countries who  participated  in  the  special session discussions have all appreciated the peace-building efforts of the Solomon Islands Government and the progresses made to date.

The media release went on to say it was further heartening to hear the expression of continued support by the UN PBC to continue collaborating with the Solomon Islands Government in supportingits peace-building efforts after the withdrawal of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) and its call to its partners to support this collaborative effort.

Prime Minister Sogavare said such positive responses were reflective of the commitment of the  United  Nations to see  lasting  peace  in Solomon Islands and a bright future for its citizens.

The PM said as the current head of the Solomon Islands Government, he will ensure continued dialogue with relevant UN Departments to transform those collaborative efforts into tangible actions on the ground at home.

Yours sincerely
