RELIGIOUS orders of the Church of Melanesia under the diocese of Malaita and staffs of the Anglican diocese of Malaita (DOM) head office in Auki have undergone violence against women training.

The religious groups include members from the Melanesian brotherhood, Sisters of the Church, Franciscan brothers, Mothers Union, and the staffs of the DOM office.

Speaking on behalf of the DOM office in Auki, Diocesan Mission Secretary Leslie Filiomea said, “this training is much more important for these church groups where they are the ones that will deal with the most people affected with violence through trauma healing.

“They were people that do outreached programmes where they will also face challenges when approaching situations especially in domestic violence.

“They must be well equipped with knowledge and skills to address this kind of issues.

Filiomea adds “our people were sick and they need healing”.

“There are lots of activities and happenings have driven out many families today where they ended up in separations and violence’s in our societies today.

“Most of our people were traumatized and some were ended up in consuming Kwaso and smoking of marijuana where they will mostly ended up in the psychiatric unit at Kiluufi hospital because of trauma.

“The church calls on all communities around Malaita province to say to Domestic Violence and live happily in our beloved island of Malaita.”
