80 year old robbed on street

AN 80 year old man has experienced the harsh realities on the streets of Honiara when his money and other valuable documents were stolen from his basket over the weekend.

Mr Billy Vinajama was doing his last shopping at Kukum around 5pm on Friday when an unknown person took his small basket containing more than $470.00 and his document.

He arrived home later only to find that his small basket gone.

In an interview with this paper, the 80 year old said he has never experienced such an unfortunate incident since he settled and worked here in Honiara over the past 60 plus years.

He said the incident has given him a new perspective on Honiara as a town that needs strong law enforcement to safe guide people both the young and old.

Mr Vinajama said the lost items includes a reading glass, Biblical documents, certificates and the only money he budgeted for the past four months.

“I never experienced such an unfortunate and saddening incident in my life since I settled in Honiara for the past 60 plus years.

“This document and little money are my life and I’ve lost them,” this is the sad sentiment the 80 year old shared with this paper during the interview.

He explained that the incident happened very fast that he did not know who grabbed his small basket at the shop.

Mr Vinajama is calling on whoever did this to return his stuffs.

“I kindly ask the person who may have found these items to please return them to me,” he said.
