20 students complete safe driving training

A total of 20 students have presented with certificates yesterday for successfully completed their training on Safe Driving.

The Safe Driving training was facilitated by Solomon Safe Driving Hub – a newly established institution that has offered safe driving for more than 40 students since its establishment.

Inspector Brian Surimalefo of Solomon Islands Police Force – Traffic Department took time out of his office duties to present the certificate to the students.

In her speech, Solomon Safe Driving Hub Administration Officer, Ms Ann Mildred said the aim and objective of the training is to breed good drivers with exceptional attitude and care off and on the road.

She said safe driving paves a way towards acquiring better and safe traffic that would benefit commercial and non-commercial road users.

“Our motto is; Drive with Care, Confident and Responsibility. This is the fundamental knowledge we want to pass on to our students to promote safety,” Ms Mildred explained.

She adds that the training also promote good attitude that drivers must obtain and keep in mind whenever they (drivers) are on the road.

Ms Mildred said providing the training programme was a huge undertaking as such initiative is first of its kind here in the Solomon Islands.

Director of Solomon Safe Driving Hub Mr William Irobiu said the students have completed their theory and that they are now ready to undergo practical session for the next two weeks.

He said students have been introduced to numbers of topic which includes; driving attitudes, traffic regulations and traffic signs as well as their meaning.

Mr Irobiu said more than 40 students have joined the training programme with the number expecting to rise in the future.

He stressed that Solomon Safe Driving Hub has been working closely with Traffic Police to further improve the training programme and also traffic safety.
