11-yr-old girl missing, suspected croc attack

AN 11-year-old girl from Jerico village who went missing at the Pudokona River, Roviana Lagoon, is believed to have been taken by a crocodile.

Report reaching this paper said the incident occurred early Sunday afternoon while the girl was playing with her two cousins at the Pudokona river mouth where her mother was washing.

Sources from Right Camp in Roviana Lagoon near Pudokona River said the deceased and her family were traveling from Enogae Community High School to Jerico Village when the incident occurred.

“The girl with another two of her age were swimming at the River bank of Pudokona when the girl went missing.”

Report says the two cousins of the victim were shocked when the girl jumped into the water and never returned.

“The two girls never saw any bubbles out from the river for a few seconds so they quickly informed her mother and a search was conducted that whole Sunday afternoon.”

Sources said they searched for an hour but it was difficult to see into the water because of the dirtiness

Search continued until yesterday with no luck, and the missing girl’s family had decided to proceed with a funeral service which is said to have taken place yesterday.

Meanwhile, Munda Police when contacted yesterday said they will continue to hunt and kill crocodiles in Roviana Lagoon.

This incident is the latest in a string of crocodile attacks, following one a week ago in which the remains of a girl was found inside a crocodile at Rorosi village.

Another similar incident also happened a couple of years ago at Nusa Banga within Roviana lagoon when a crocodile snatched a small boy around the age of 8 in which unfortunately the helpless young lad was not found to this day.
