WESTERN Provincial men’s volleyball team are through to the grand final of the Solomon Islands Volleyball Federation’s (SIVBF) Easter Volleyball championship.

Western defeated defending champions West Honiara, three sets to two (25:22, 16:25, 19: 25, 25, 20, 15:11) in their semi-final match at Town Ground yesterday.

The visitors had to work extra hard in the second set after claiming the first set 25:22 but could not secure the second losing it 16:25 to West Honiara.

West Honiara spikers lead by national volley ball player Junior Hunter maintained the momentum claiming the third set 19:25 but saw Western Province fighting back to claim the fourth set 25:20 to force the match into its fifth set.

The defending champions struggled to find their second and third set momentum as the visitors run riot to claim the set 15:11 and a 3-2 aggregate win over West Honiara.

Western province’s team Captain Tata Kaitu was happy with the win yesterday and thanked his boys for an outstanding performance.

“Obviously we knew we had to work extra harder after losing to Rebel Inc. in our pool matches,” he told Sun SPORTS after their win yesterday.

“We knew it was going to be tough. But I always knew we were going to make it to the big one because our discipline for this competition is a hundred percent.

“Thank you to the boys for a brilliant performance today and also to our fans who came to support us. We look forward for the grand final and hopefully bring the title back to Western Province,”Kaitu adds.

Western Province will meet Rebel Inc. sponsored Ripeli 3pm today in the grand final match at Town Ground while West Honiara takes on Mandera in the third and fourth position play offs at 1pm.

Meanwhile in the women’s category, it is Arasina who will take on West Honiara in the grand final while Renbel takes on Rainbow in the third and fourth position playoff 1pm today.
