W-Province increases Catering Commercial fee

Coalition Spokesperson and MPA for Nusa Roviana, Ramrakha Talasasa

THE Western Executive Government has passed and increased the Catering Commercial fee of the province to $5000.00.

Non-Executive member and MPA for Ward 16 Hon. Ramrakha Talasasa Jnr last week during the passing of the Western Province Business License Amendments at the Full Assembly meeting questioned the Minister for Finance and Treasury if the increase of fee also applies to hotels and restaurants as well.

This is whether if they would like to venture into such business or provide that service as well asked the MPA for Ward 16.

In response, the Minister of Finance and Treasury and MPA for Ward 24 at North Vangunu Hon. Lester Saomasi confirmed that it should be like that because hotels and restaurants business licenses are only to feed people within their premises.

“There are times when we actually ask such businesses to organise such caterings in which their service is a bit different from normal businesses,” said Hon. Lester Saomasi.

According to the Minister of Finance and Treasury, catering commercial refers to the kinds of caterings from business houses which is different from the kinds of women groups or church groups and other groups engaged in providing food caterings.

These other groups are the ones that come under domestic in which they have a fee sum of $500.00 dollars.

“The executive feels that commercial groups must be to a certain different amount of fee so that is why it is $5000.00,” said the Minister for Finance and Treasury.

“This is where we the government executive have looked into and suggested for the change of catering commercial fees,” he said.
