A teenage boy has survived three days adrift at sea after his boat ran out of fuel during a fishing trip off the northwest coast of Kolombangara island in Western Province.

He was rescued miles off Uepi Island in Marovo Lagoon. A source from Noro police said the lad, who is from Tuki village in northwest Kolombangara island was off for a fishing trip last Friday December 23 and was rescued on late Monday by landing craft, MV LC Western Star.

The source said the boy was seen waving for help when he was rescued.

“He was never reported missing by relatives, and was rescued by chance on Monday 26 December by LC Western Star.

“It was very lucky for him, he has survived the three days ordeal, unfortunately he has spent this year’s Christmas at sea” sources said.

He was then taken to Noro and later to Gizo by the same vessel that rescued him, likely to receive medical attention at Gizo Hospital.

However when asked, our source at Noro police said the boys condition was stable when rescued.

“His condition is fine, he is a strong boy,” it says.

The boy reportedly survived the three days at sea with coconuts and rain water.
