SPO managers conclude training
A three days training for South Pacific Oil (SPO) supervisors and senior managers was concluded on Friday afternoon attended by 19 staff.
Director of Training of Solomon Islands Small Business Enterprise Centre (SISBEC), Joel Hounima delivered the training which was well received by participants.
Staff representing various departments within SPO, from: operation, finance, HR, engineering and sales attended the training.
Financial Management for Non-Finance Managers was a training course designed for managers who may not have polished financial background but wish to learn some basic financial knowledge and skills to help them process management issues that have financials stuff in them.
New concepts and skills were learnt such as, budgets, cash flows, reading financial reports, analyzing financial ratios, asset management and so forth.
The bottom line consideration of the training is to help staff to see how their individual department’s contributes to the overall company’s profit which is amongst other things, the key focus of shareholders.
The success of the training was best described by George Keni, in his closing remark when he said that the training helped participants to see the big picture from the same viewpoint which was not the case before the training.
This realization is crucial and could very much leverage productivity and maximize profit when all efforts are focused.
Another participant’s feedback says that, with the training, he would now be able to do some financial analysis of his department and do a report write-up explaining what these analysis represent.
These positive statements highlighted that the training was effective.
Training was successful because of the active participation and engagement of staff in group activities and discussions.
The CEO of SPO at the closing encouraged his staff to utilize the knowledge gained both for their personal use and work.
