SIMSA plans talks with ship-owners

THE Office of the Solomon Islands Maritime Safety Administration proposes to stage talks with all ship-owners and shipmasters on marine safety regulations.

The awareness talk is purposely to let the ship-owners know about the marine safety and other marine acts they need to understand as they engage in operating shipping services.

Head of Operation Safe Boat – 2016 from SIMSA Office, Mr Derek Saru told this paper yesterday in an interview that the proposed awareness talks are expected to be carried out this year.

He said this proposed talk is to let ship-owners and shipmasters know their responsibility and what they are supposed to play in operating shipping.

Adding that this will include safety equipment and other related marine equipment that are needed onboard vessels

He said not only that but also ship-operators need to understand marine regulations as it is very important as they engage in this business.

Mr Saru said shipmasters will also be informed on some of the changes carried out by SIMSA on shipping regulation.

However, he said that the uttermost idea of this awareness talk is to create an avenue that the ship-owners and masters work cooperatively with SIMSA to safe and quality shipping services for the country.
