Sikua calls on gov’t to act on questions raised in parliament

LEADER of the Independent Group and MP for North East Guadalcanal, Dr Derek Sikua, has called on the government to do something about the many serious matters raised in the parliamentary questions.

This is because, he said, most if not all are directly related to government policies.

Contributing in yesterday’s motion of Sine Die, Hon Sikua said this session of parliament has dealt with a record number of parliamentary questions with about more than 120 questions being noticed.

Most parliamentary questions of which have been carried over from past parliamentary meeting.

“But am happy to note that we have asked and got answers to the majority of questions if not all the questions during this meeting.

“The government must do something about the many serious calls they have taken on the matter raised in the parliamentary questions, because most if not all are directly related to government policies,” he said.

He echoed that it must be made clear to all ministers and their permanent secretaries that questions are asked not for the sake of asking questions or to cut anybody out.

“We ask parliamentary questions because it is very important for our people who want to know what their government is doing, or not doing on certain matter of interest to them and nation as a whole.”

Dr Sikua thanked and congratulate a handful of ministers and their permanent secretaries who have always endeavoured to respond to the questions directed to them.

“On the other hand I call on the ministers who are strangling to answer questions to attend their respective offices so that their permanent secretaries could brief them properly on the answers rather than finding difficulties to answer them in parliament,” he said.
