Ruling on woman’s case June 19

THE court will make its ruling on the case against a woman on June 19 this year.

This is the matter against Cathy Roy of Bokolonga village in the Central Islands Province who was charged with false pretence in relation to an incident in 2014.

Police alleged that the accused, Ms Roy of JR Construction & Property Real Estate Company, obtained a sum of $44,600.67 from the Director of Far East Enterprise.

Police said that early 2014 the accused went to the complainant’s office at Tasahe and proposed to bring prospective renters for his apartments under the conditions that the property must be insured.

The accused during their conversation recommended Tower insurance and offered to act as the complainant’s proxy to make payments to Tower insurance and told the complainant that Tower insurance does not accept cheque but cash payments. The defendant also claimed that her clients were waiting to sign the lease agreement and would move in soon. She insisted on insuring the house by paying cash. The complainant then agreed and gave money to the defendant. However the complainant later found out that Tower insurance never received any payment for the insurance and all the cheque issued by the defendant were dishonoured.

The matter was reported to the police in which the defendant was arrested and bail with a $10,000 cash bail.

Lawyer from the public solicitor’s office represents the accused in court.
