Responsible and ethical journalism

DEAR EDITOR, this week Prime Minister Sogavare again called for responsible journalism.

The PM made very interesting comments about ‘responsible journalism’ when he was quoted as saying – “Responsible Journalism is journalism that is above ordinary journalism. It is not popular journalism but ethical journalism. The practice of responsible journalism requires the observation of five principles.

Truth and Accuracy; Independence; Fairness and Impartiality; Humanity; and Accountability.”

The PM also called for truth and accuracy by media workers.

I can easily align with the PM’s call for responsible journalism because I was subjected to wholly unfair, untruthful, racially slanted and defamatory allegations by internationally well known journalists, Mary, Louis Callaghan and Michael Field at the onset of the ‘ethnic tension’ which undermined my morale at the time and gave rise to suspected offshore dis-information efforts to de-stabilise control of the RSIPF.

Yours sincerely

FRANK SHORT
