Real landowners, No benefits

A concerned citizen is curious to where the sum of $60m given by the previous government for the Manoaba Airport Project in Malaita Province went.

The concerned person said that while listening to political discussions of the government from the radio, he sparked an interest from a question raised by Opposition Leader, Jeremiah Manele to Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare.

He said the question given requests the Prime Minister to explain the case of $60m given for the Manoaba Airport project.

The concerned person said that the Opposition Leader should direct the question to the former Minister of Aviation and his Permanent Secretary and check the ministry as he believes it was that ministry at that time that was given authority to handle the money and carry out the project.

The elder also said that the two people who signed an agreement with the government for this project are not the right people as they are not originally from the island nor qualify by the patrilineal system of the Province.

He said that the previous government and Ministry of Aviation trusted the wrong people and that every documents from the rightful landowners were given to the Aviation ministry only to be disqualified and ignored.

In addition, he said that during that time the Ministry disqualified all those documents because they had the financial power to do so.

He added that even though that huge sum of money was given the airport is not fully functional and the rightful landowners did not benefit from a single cent of the project.

Lastly, he adds that the airport will not open successfully until the government finds the real landowners of the island to delegate the project.
