Outgoing Commissioner commended for his outstanding contribution

PRIME Minister Manasseh Sogavare has commended outgoing Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast for his outstanding contribution to the Police Force and the country.

Mr Sogavare, in his speech yesterday during the ceremony to officially farewell Mr Prendergast and welcomes Matthew Varley as new Police Commissioner, on behalf of the people and the government of Solomon Islands thanked Mr Prendergast for the services rendered to the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, its related institutions and the people.

“Without your foresight the RSIPF would not have come this far. I whole-heartedly agree with the Chief Justice of Solomon Islands who clearly stated that your contribution to the Royal Solomon Islands Police is outstanding.

“I wish you and your good family all the best in your future endeavours,” PM Sogavare said.

He said Mr Prendergast during the past two years and five months under his leadership there were major changes seen within the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force.

Mr Prendergast commenced in the role as the Commissioner of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force on August 29, 2014.

His initial contract was for a two year period.

However, Commissioner Prendergast agreed to extend his contract at the request of the Solomon Islands Government, and this extension ends yesterday – 25 January 2017.

Therefore, his tenure has been 2 years and 5 months.
