PEOPLE of Namona’ako today will have no issues with water after it was brought to their door steps through the help of DFAT and the European Union (EU).

The water supply project was handed over to the community of Namona’ako last Friday.

According to the community chairman Henry Hebala this project took them many years to negotiate in order for it to be implemented.

“I thank the rural water and sanitation hygiene (RWASH) team under malaita province for their effort and concern towards this project which has come to reality today.

“It is a big challenge that we have undertaken, through negotiating with landowners for the water source.

We thank the Saletafi landowning group for seeing the need of our community for allowing the water to sustain us in our community.

“It is our part, the community as a whole to look after this project towards the sustainability of our community,” he added.

Director of Environmental Health Division Leonard Olivera said you are so lucky to become one of the communities in the country to have received this kind of project.

“It is your responsibility to maintain the project through maintenance if necessary in order for their sustainability.

He said having such wonderful projects like this is a blessing for their community.

Olivera added that it is your effort and achievement through labour and manpower that you have provided and you have received this golden blessing.

During the official ceremony, Provincial Secretary of Malaita Province Jackson Gege thanked the co-funder’s DFAT and EU for the financial support in terms of materials for the project.

This project I believe costs about $200,000-00 dollars; $112,000-00 is the cost of materials while $88,000-00 is for freighting and other expenses,” Gege said.

The Malaita Provincial Government thanked the RWASH team in Auki for their commitment and time and their working together with the community of Namona’ako towards their successful project.
