Members of WYCA Honiara celebrate achievements
THE YWCA’s celebration to mark World YWCA Day has given an opportunity for women to once again recognise their achievements.
The event is a world renowned platform celebrated annually on April 24 and Solomon Islands YWCA members observed it yesterday.
The President for YWCA, Solomon Islands Mrs Georgina Ariki said the celebration is crucial to recognise achievements locally and internationally with determination and strength to move their obligations.
“It is a day where we all recognise our achievements and how important we work together as team and bring everyone together, build on our strengths and learning lessons.
“And moving forward for the betterment of women and young girls across the country,” she said.
Now Mrs Ariki said YWCA already worked with new women and grass-root girls around Guadalcanal which added to its network as channel to deliberate trainings to disadvantage women.
“Solomon Islands need YWCA movement expand to rural areas and provinces and grow up women and girls in their leadership roles, in solidarity we can together rise up and provide strong women leadership that defeat challenges and make positive changes,” she said.
The General Secretary, Jocelyn Lai said as part of YWCA global community they will work on increasing its membership this year and onwards to meet global target of 100,000 women memberships.
She said YWCA SI they also part of developing a 2035 which envisioned process to map out 20-year programme of action which described as achievement for them to continues advocates for women and girls.
