Melanesian Council of Arts and Culture to meet in Honiara
THE Melanesian Council of Arts and Culture will be in the country for a meeting at the end of this month.
Director of the Culture Division under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Dennis Marita confirmed this to Island Sun yesterday when asked on preparations towards the Melanesian festival to be hosted next year.
He said the council meeting is purposely to oversee areas relating to the show.
Mr Marita said the meeting is very important towards the show as it will determine what the festival of arts and culture will be like.
He said based on the outcome of the meeting, preparation towards the show will happen grounded on the areas identified during the meeting.
Mr Marita said they are looking forward for the meeting and hope to make fruitful discussions.
In the meantime he said currently the local organizing committee is yet to be established.
Mr Marita said the identified obstacle towards establishing the local organizing committee is finance, but they are looking forward to forming the committee anytime soon.
He said the local organizing committee is the body to spearhead the festival and there is an opportunity that from the outcomes of this council meeting, it will give direction for what the committee will do in its preparation.
Solomon Islands will host next year’s 6th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture after the 5th festival of arts was hosted by PNG in 2014.
