Honiara’s main water sources temporary shut-down

SOLOMON Water announces three main water sources in Honiara will temporary shut down due to high turbidity caused by heavy rain in the capital.

A notice released by the Solomon Waters revealed the Kombito gravity and Kongulai pump and gravity system will shut down because of high turbidity caused by heavy rain in Honiara over the past days.

Solomon Water is currently monitoring the situation and will inform the general public when quality of water returns to safe levels for human consumption.

Since the water source is not safe, Solomon Water advises general public to ensure boiling drinking water until further notice from authority when turbidity is low and safe for use.

From the Kongulai gravity water system supply, areas that will be affected with low water pressure or no water supply includes; White River, Tandai, Rove, Riffle Range and St John.

In Kongulai pump system-Tasahe Tank, communities expecting low water pressure includes; NPF area, SIEA area, Tasahe A&B, Ngossi, Mbokona, Langakiki, Vavaya Ridge, Skyline, West and East Kola Ridge, Koalale, Tanuli, Mbua Valley, Kombivatu, Matariu, Feraladoa, Fulisango and Vura 1 Heights.

Communities that will encounter low water pressure or no water support from Kombito gravity are; Gilbert Camp, Lau Valley, Lio Creek, Panatina Ridge, SINU Panatina campus, KGVI School and SINU Kukum campus.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, Disaster Management and Meteorology through its Division, say that the wet weather will continue from March to May.

Country will experience the occurrence in the central region station which will be covers the Henderson, Honiara and Auki while in western region is in Munda and Taro.
