Honiara Golf Championship ends

Rukabo retains title, Tabe new women’s champ

THE 2017 Honiara Golf Club Championship has successfully completed yesterday at the Panatina, golf course.

The competition ended with defending men’s champion George Rukabo retaining his title while a new champion was crowned for the women’s competition.

“I’m overwhelmed. I found it a bit tough in the final day yesterday,” men’s champion George Rukabo said.

“But after getting a birdie in the ninth hole it gave me confidence which pushed me on.

“I’m happy I have managed to successfully retain my title andif I’m chosen to represent the country in golf I’m ready to do us proud,” he adds.

Meanwhile defending women’s champion Janet Siru was ousted after strong performances on Saturday and Sunday by new champ Ravatu Tabe.

Mrs Tabe who represented Solomon Islands in golf during the 2015 Pacific Games in PNG was ecstatic after receiving her trophies from Honiara Golf Club President Peter Hughes yesterday. Mr Hughes meanwhile thanked all the sponsors who have made this year’s golf championship a success.

Other winners for the Honiara Golf Club championship which ended yesterday are as follows:

Men’s Net and Gross division winners.

C-Grade: Nickson Rubulegu

B-Grade: Daniel Tapala

A-Grade: George Rukabo

Women’s Net and Gross winner

Ravatu Tabe.
