Fish Aggregated Device stolen
A Fish Aggregated Device (FAD) installed last year some Kilometers north of Voruvoru Catholic Mission Station at Choiseul Province has been stolen.
The FAD which was dropped by the Fisheries Division at Taro under the Choiseul Integrated Climate Change Programme to help attract fish for local fishermen had gone missing since Friday 16th of December.
According to Nerio Ulemiki, media coordinator for Christ the King Parish at Voruvoru Northwest Choiseul, said an unknown high powered ray-boat coming from the east direction circled around the raft and went away westward cutting it off.
Earlier on, Voruvoru and its surrounding communities were urged by the Taro Fisheries Officer Thompson Miabule to look after the FAD project.
This is so that it would support the local fishermen catch many fish when fishing.
The local communities are currently on the lookout for the missing FAD.
