THREE days’ training on domestic violence for religious orders under the Anglican Diocese of Malaita (DOM) ended yesterday in Auki.

During the training, participants were equipped with ideas on the process of addressing issues concerning domestic violence, DOM vicar general Fr George Fagono said.

“I believe that this training is the first of its kind to be organised for the religious orders that serve under the Anglican diocese of Malaita.”

This group of people are the ones that mostly do their practical works out in the fields where they meet different people with different problems.

“The DOM mission team will include this training as one of their priority trainings that will be carried out throughout the diocese of Malaita.

“I hope this training will enable all families especially men to see their role as fatherhood in their respective families.”

Fagono also said that domestic violence against women should be stopped.

Also speaking during the closing yesterday, DOM mission secretary Leslie Filiomea highlighted that the main aim is that church leaders must have better understanding and management in any conflict.

“They must understand and practice conflict analysis and to explore and practice conflict transformation skills as leaders dialogue, medication and negotiation and to explore strategies to building healthy workplace culture.”

The participants thanked the facilitators for sharing ideas and information about domestic violence, which they regard as a new chapter for them.

“We learn new things that we must address these issues responsibly when faced,” they said.

The DOM thanked the OXFAM for funding the training through the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACOM) office in Honiara.
